Newsletter – 12th January 2018

We are fully back into routine at school now with plenty going on as always.

This week the Junior Governors introduced a new initiative to become a greener school and the classes have been busy appointing their own “Eco Warriors” who will be our class champions for all things green happening in school.

Our brilliant Boccia team, who won the borough competition in December, were in action this week at the Essex finals. Facing the best 16 teams in the county they once again performed fantastically to comfortably win their group in the first stage of the competition, then progress to the semi-finals and eventually on to the final where they agonisingly lost by the narrowest of margins in a very closely fought contest. To come away as runners up in the whole county is a fantastic achievement and the team represented us superbly!

Our basketball team competed at Shoebury High School this week too and also represented us brilliantly, showing great determination and team spirit despite being on the wrong side of a few results. The team got stronger with each fixture and scored some fantastic team and individual baskets throughout the games – good effort team!

PTA news

Despite this cold wintery weather, it is now the Spring Term and we have several fundraisers to look forward to. The children appear to have all grown over the Christmas break so we will be starting our fundraisers with a Pre-Loved Uniform Sale straight after school, in the playground, on Thursday 25th January 2018 (weather permitting).

School dinners

On Thursday 18th January 2018, the infant school will be carrying out their school census, a bi-annual legal requirement for the Department for Education. The data collected on this date for ‘Universal Free School Meals’ amongst other data collected, has an enormous effect on the financial funding our school receives for school meals from the Government.

The dinner menu on Thursday 18th January 2018 will be as follows:

Week 1 Hot dinner choices Cold dinner choices
Breaded Fish Portions

Chalky’s Homemade Vegetable Pasta Bake

Jacket Potato

Spaghetti Hoops

Sweetcorn or Peas

Chips

High Fibre Baps

Cucumber Sticks

Cherry Tomatoes

Sliced Peppers

Carrot Sticks

Cheese

Butchers Roast Beef Slices

Cookies, Fresh fruit, Yoghurt/Fromage Frais – Milk and Water

The menu on Friday 19th January 2018 will be the same as week 1, Thursday.

Attendance matters

The number of lates this week was 40. Our overall attendance so far is 96.5%. We have had an attendance officer from the council in school this week monitoring the number of late arrivals to school. There are always genuine reasons for the odd late arrival but persistent lateness can have a really negative effect on a child’s progress in school so we all need to work together to minimise disruption wherever possible.
