Newsletter – 19th January 2018

Chalkwell Hall is going green! Pupil voice is important to us – we have our Junior Governors, we have Digital Leaders and now we have Eco Warriors! Our new team of Eco Warriors will be our environment and energy saving champions around school, raising awareness and tackling issues in school like reducing waste, making sure we recycle efficiently and saving energy where we can amongst a host of other things. Well done to the team for being voted in by their peers – we are looking forward to being greener than ever!

Year 5 have had students from Westcliff High School for Boys working with them this week running science experiments as part of their lessons.

On Tuesday and Wednesday Year 6 went to Southend Museum to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the Saxons as part of their topic work this term. They had the opportunity to explore the museum as well as a talk all about the Saxon prince uncovered in Prittlewell.

Our Year 3 and 4 girls took part in the borough football tournament on Wednesday in cold and windy conditions but the weather didn’t dampen their enthusiasm at all. After winning all three of their group games in the morning they progressed on to the “Super Eights” and came top of that group as well to move into the semi-finals which they managed to win with a goal scored by the goalkeeper from one to the other! In the final luck was not on their side as they succumbed to a “golden goal” in extra time but to come away as runners up in a very tough competition is an amazing result and we are exceptionally proud of them, not just for their performance but for their fantastic sporting attitude all through a very chilly day – well done girls!

The girls played netball at West Leigh Juniors last night in rather soggy conditions. Despite being beaten by a strong team the girls showed great resilience and kept working all the way to the end of the game. Plenty of encouraging signs for future performances though and all played with a smile on their faces – top effort all round!

A couple of reminders for everyone:

Please do not park in the school car park; it is just for staff members and deliveries to the office, this includes before and after school.  Please bring in Bikeability slips for Year 6 pupils, we need to get all the permissions sorted before the team join us in a couple of weeks.
