I had the pleasure of attending the latest graduation ceremony of The Children’s University on Tuesday evening at Southend University. Along with 5 other local schools, our latest group of graduates were being awarded diplomas and degrees celebrating the many hours they put in to their extra-curricular activities both in and outside of school. It’s wonderful to see the dedication of the children and their ‘give it a go’ attitudes towards the opportunities offered to them in our many and varied clubs.
Well done to the children for their enthusiasm and thanks to our staff team for giving up so many hours to provide these opportunities. Passports for logging hours attended are available in the office, at a cost of £5, if you would like to sign up and work towards bronze, silver or even gold!
We are on the hunt for help! We have a fantastic team of volunteers who come in and listen to the children read aloud on a regular basis but we are always on the lookout for a few more if you can spare a little bit of time on a regular basis. We have a number of children who really benefit from reading aloud more regularly and there are only so many staff and hours in the school day! If you could offer a little bit of time once a week in the afternoon please contact the office.
We have a position available on our Midday Assistant Team working from 11:45am to 1:15pm every lunchtime as a maternity cover until June. If you are interested please see Mrs Leaback in the office.
Our Year 5&6 boys were in action at the finals of the Bournes Green 6 a side tournament on Saturday. Despite the constant rain and increasingly slippery conditions, the boys dominated their first two games and played some very good football. Unfortunately the opposition goalkeepers were in tremendous form and that meant both games ended up 0-0. The final group game was a must win against the hosts, Bournes Green, and was a more even match but again finished 0-0 which meant we couldn’t quite get through to the semi-finals. Still a good achievement to get through to the finals and a very good defensive performance but we just couldn’t get the ball in the net. Hopefully we will have a bit more luck in front of goal when the boys continue with their league games in the next few weeks!
The Year 3&4 boys are in action this afternoon at the Len Forge Centre against all the other local schools, good luck boys!
