Newsletter – 16th March 2018

16th March 2018

We seem to be having a wave of childhood illnesses at the moment across both Juniors and Infants with lots of cases of chicken pox and slap cheek, which isn’t unusual, but also now a couple of probable cases of scarlet fever too. Please have a read of the information sheets that we have sent out from Public Health England which advise on signs and symptoms to look out for along with basic hygiene advice to help try and avoid unnecessary spreading of germs.

We are advising children to wash their hands regularly and sneeze into tissues, etc at school so we can hopefully reduce the impact of this latest round of illness.

It’s been busy in school as it’s Science Week and the children have been working on their class marble runs ready for the grand testing today with an aim of keeping the marble moving the longest. There were some weird and wonderful designs on display and the winning teams will be announced at a later date.

The Science Club have been making slime which is 100% safe for other children to purchase and take home this evening. Please ask your child to keep it at home – 400 pots of slime in school on Monday is just asking for trouble!

We had our final parent meetings for Year 3 this week. The vast majority of parents managed to get in to have a chat with their child’s teacher, even in the snow, but if you couldn’t make it please try and catch up with them over the next couple of weeks.

We aren’t officially doing it as a day (our Junior Governors pick our charity activities and this wasn’t one on their list) but we are more than happy if anyone is supporting World Down Syndrome Day to come in with their official WDSD socks on. See https://worlddownsyndromeday.org/lots-of-socks for more information.

Sports news

Our Year 5&6 girls have been playing football this week with a very impressive 5-1 victory over Prince Avenue on Monday. A brilliant team performance and four goals for Kitty Weller who had a great game! They are also playing this evening against Hamstel so good luck!

The boys played their penultimate league game against Earls Hall yesterday and battled through to collect a 2-0 win and stay top of the league. Only one game to go boys, keep it up!
