23rd March 2018

Sport Relief kicked off this week with a pupils v staff netball match.  The staff definitely had a height advantage in the game but a distinct inability to stick to the rules (especially me) leveled the playing field somewhat! The girls showed their skills and taught us a few things about netball along the way. Good game and well played all!

The children also had the opportunity to take part in a penalty shootout. Around 400 penalties were taken in all, raising money for Sport Relief. If you’re playing spot the ball in this photo, it’s in the bottom right hand corner. Great penalty!

Year 5 have been busy this week visiting St Saviour’s Church and Braintree Victorian Museum. Their Victorian experience saw them enduring some very strict rules in the classroom, and they thought they had it tough here at Chalkwell Hall!

There were lots of odd socks on Wednesday for World Down Syndrome Day. A total of £1000 was raised for a very good cause, well done and thank you to all who took part or donated.

All year groups were represented at the SEEDC art exhibition last night in stunning style. There was so much artistic and creative talent on display and great feedback was received from the judges. We should find out soon how our brilliant artists fared in the judging. Lots more pictures on Facebook and Twitter!

Sports news

Year 6 boys played in a 3 team tournament yesterday afternoon at Earls Hall. They won handsomely in both their matches with plenty of goals and some great football on display – well done boys!

Summer Term Clubs

If your child returned a club list form, they will bring home notification of which clubs they will be in for the Summer term today.  Where your child was not successful in getting all their choices, waiting lists have been created.

PTA news

This week you will have received a letter and donation bag for our textile donation fundraiser with BAG2SCHOOL. It’s the perfect time for a spring clean so please fill this bag (and any other pink or black sacks) with your textile donations. Please don’t forget to check the list of items that are not accepted. Please bring your bags back to school for collection on Wednesday 18th April 2018.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to Easyfundraising this month, we now have 83 supporters earning donations for our schools every time they shop online at NO extra cost to themselves. If you haven’t yet signed up, please do so and help us reach 100 supporters by the end of the month and earn extra money for our schools!!

Thank you to everyone who has bought in uniform donations this week, please note the Pre-Loved Uniform Sale will be on Monday 26th March 2018 at 3pm in the playground, weather permitting. Summer uniform can be worn after the Easter break so now is the perfect time to make your purchases.

We are sadly having to cancel the Quiz Night tomorrow, Saturday 24th March, due to a small response. Thank you to those who did reply and apologies for cancelling, but we feel that we cannot offer the same great evening with low numbers and your money has been returned to school today.
