Conkers Clubs – Customer Satisfaction Survey Results

Last term we sent out a customer satisfaction survey for Conkers Breakfast and After School Clubs. We would like to thank you for your many positive comments, it’s great to hear that the hard work and dedication of our Conkers team is being appreciated. There are responses below to a range of comments by way of answering queries.

Mrs Roe and her team are excellent. I trust them to look after my child implicitly. This is turn has allowed me to pursue my career and work full time. My child is never ready to go home and thoroughly enjoys this.

A big ‘thank you’ to Mrs Roe and the Conkers team.

It’s an excellent club that my son absolutely loves and wants to go to even when he doesn’t have to. It is very well run and the staff are lovely.

Good job, keep the clubs going!

A very minor point – my son does sometime complain that the plates are dirty/wet

The plates being wet could be that they have come out of the dishwasher and not quite dried, I will pass this onto staff.

Our son attends breakfast club, chooses a cold lunch and then attend after school club. This means that when we pick him up we then have to give him dinner as he has not taken a full meal all day. He currently goes to bed at 7.00pm and squeezing in a meal when he gets home is very difficult plus he is effectively eating bread all day. Is there an option for an evening meal rather than a light tea? This would make a fantastic service even better.

Since the survey the food selection has been reviewed with healthier options available but there are no plans to provide an evening meal instead of a light tea.

Very happy with the provision

I really like the clubs, my son enjoys them and I will be utilising them more next year when my daughter joins the school. I would like to use the online booking system but it doesn’t meet my needs its convoluted, it doesn’t always allow me to book, even when there is space, and it isn’t optimised for a smart device. Which is a shame. It isn’t a deal breaker for me, but I would be willing to pay a little more if it meant that they could have dinner at after school club.

If you are still having difficulties with the on-line booking system, please let the school office staff know so we can help.

More filling, varied and healthier food options would be great as we use the club for the full duration 3-6pm. A quiet cosy book corner would be good to encourage children to read and if enough staff available and if a viable option, it would be wonderful for them to help listen too. My daughter loves the club, thank you!

Since the survey the food selection has been reviewed with healthier options. The children are able to use the library which is our Quiet Zone which has comfortable chairs from 3.40pm -5pm where a member of staff is available to listen to them read.

I would like to see more staff involved with the running of this club, the staff really try their hardest to do their best, but there are far too few of them. There should be more money put into resources and toys, the toys look worn out and old. I also feel the selection of snacks is budget too, with lots of white bread, sugary breakfast options and not enough variation of fruit and so forth, again probably because this is reflected in the price we pay. Lastly, this is a place where children should have more opportunity to relax and rest ‘quietly’-children strain to relax and be calm, with watching films etc in hard seats and nowhere for them to doze, or feel ‘at home’. I felt very sad for a young lady curled up against a wall on an old bean bag, trying to sleep. Luckily my children do not have to attend every day, but if children do, how do they ever feel calm and rested after a busy day at school? Maybe a coned off area, with some sort of mobile screen and comfy sofa like chairs would be better, especially if they are young and go there from 3-6pm. I know with the provision you have you are doing your best, but it has many areas to improve in.

The Conkers Clubs currently have a ratio of 1 member of staff to 10 which is very good. The Conkers Clubs have a yearly budget to buy or replace equipment used throughout the year. Since the survey the food selection has been reviewed with healthier options available. The children are able to use the library which is our Quiet Zone which has comfortable chairs from 3.40pm -5pm. Having a few comfortable chairs in the main hall is something the school will look into but is a little more difficult to solve due to storage of equipment when not in use.

It works really well and Freya enjoys her time mixing with children from other years

The after school service is brilliant; my only small area of complaint is the new online booking service. If it wasn’t for Mrs Roe the system would completely fall apart.

If you are still having difficulties with the on-line booking system, please let the school office staff know so we can help.

Most helpful staff and the children love going

Fantastic service

Since the rise in price it takes a massive hit out of my wages for only a few hours childcare. There should be a discount for siblings and more food or larger quantities available as I still have to provide a full dinner when they get home. An hourly rate instead of session would help as rarely are they there after 5pm. Irregular working patterns means I can’t book in advance and places are always full now so I may have to look at other options anyway.

Our prices are the same as Leigh North Street Primary, £4 cheaper than West Leigh Juniors and we hadn’t had a price rise in a very long time. In the past the school did provide an hourly/sibling rate: however, this worked out to be unmanageable and the school has no plans to change from the current fixed rate session. Since the survey the food selection has been reviewed with healthier options, but there are no plans to provide an evening meal instead of a light tea. We are very popular with limited room to expand our provision so, unfortunately, this does mean we will have to disappoint some people sometimes.

Food could be much better in terms of healthiness and in terms of consistency. Often if they go to a club first they don’t eat anything at all. High sugar, high fat low nutrition breakfasts and teas are served. It would be great to know whether my child will have eaten nothing and need a full on dinner or have had beans on toast and just need a snack but this is entirely unpredictable.   Safety of the tree house in the wet/dark- we had several nasty injuries from this in the autumn/winter… is it safe? We actually have a high number of injuries at before and after school club compared with school- may just be bad luck but trends in injuries should be looked at.   It would be great for after school club to help with homework – spellings, reading etc would happily pay a bit more for this but appreciate it may not be practical. On-line booking system is a massive improvement!  It would be really useful to be able to cancel sessions online as well as book them.

Since the survey the food selection has been reviewed with healthier options, if you ask a member of staff they will be able to tell you what your child had to eat at the club. Every session the risks are reviewed in the playground and once it is dark/wet the children are not allowed on the tree house, if it is raining the children remain in the dining hall and library. The occurrence and nature of injuries in any area of school is reviewed and acted upon where necessary. Thank you for your comments surrounding the on-line booking system the school is working with Kids Club to improve the service, unfortunately at this time parents are unable to cancel sessions on-line, you will need to call or email.

Be good to get a sibling rate. Also is frustrating to pay for a full session even if child is only there for part of a session.

In the past the school did provide an hourly/sibling rate; however, this worked out to be unmanageable and the school has no plans to change from the current fixed rate session.

Mrs Roe and her team do a fantastic job. My only observation is that it is difficult to cater for all ages in the hall, especially during the winter months.

Resources are available for all year groups and outside games are played when the weather permits.

Both my daughters have always loved going to after school club. Only used the breakfast club a couple of time a few years ago and it was a lovely welcoming club at the time. Thank you

It is really useful to have this facility on site, however I do feel it is expensive, particularly when compared to the prices charged by other schools in the area. £4 for one-hour breakfast club is quite a lot, in comparison for after school club at £8 for 3 hours.

Fantastic Service no complaints

Mrs Roe does a brilliant job. I never have any concerns about being able to get a place for my child.

It would be nice to see a larger range of activities available for the children. Wider food choices (and healthier options) at the after school club.

Since the survey the food selection has been reviewed with healthier options. The Conkers Clubs have a yearly budget to buy or replace equipment used throughout the year and are always looking for new ideas.

The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about my children. They are a credit to the school and very professional.

Our daughter is a user of the breakfast club. When we’ve dropped her off before staff have taken her in without asking her or us what her name is, it left me and my husband feeling slightly awkward. This has happened the 3 occasions that we’ve used the club. She loves attending though, and will carry on attending when required. As she’s so young, we’d really like a bit of communication on how much and what she ate for her breakfast.

Sorry to hear you felt awkward when bringing your child to breakfast club. The breakfast staff quickly get to know the children’s names so won’t need to ask every time they come in. If you ask a member of staff, they will be able to tell you what your child had to eat at the club or if you request a member of staff can write it in her high five book or home school diary.

The introduction of the online booking tool is good but it would be better if it included an overview of our bookings and account and allow you to cancel bookings in advance, obviously within policy. Thanks for the great service you provide.

Thank you for your comments surrounding the on-line booking system the school is working with Kids Club in ways to improve the service, unfortunately at this time parents are unable to cancel sessions on line.

Very happy with service overall. The only one concern that I have had is the rough play between Infant & Junior children, my little one has often come home saying that he has been pushed around or hit by bigger junior children, he was once winded by an older child too, never have I been informed of any of these incidents, so I wonder whether they are even witnessed by the support staff. Other than this, no problems at all.

Rough play within the Conkers Clubs is taken very seriously and the staff use the Conkers Clubs policy, in line with the schools’ behaviour policies, to manage behaviour.  We encourage children to inform a member of staff of any worries or rough play at the time so the matter can be dealt with immediately and parents are informed. Any serious issues are reported to the Infant and Junior schools so they can also work with the children and parents. Parents and children are warned about the consequences of repeating unacceptable behaviour and where the very few serious issues have arisen around the behaviour of individuals they have been removed from the Conkers Clubs.

I would like to see the children have a more comfortable and accommodating environment, particularly after school and in the winter months. I have seen them leaning against walls or sitting on the hard floor, could some comfortable chairs or cushions be available? I have also witnessed older children hitting younger ones, there needs to be closer supervision of the children. The staff are lovely and I feel they try hard to care for the children making the best of the resources available.

The children are able to use the library which is our Quiet Zone which has comfortable chairs from 3.40pm 5pm. Having a few comfortable chairs in the main hall is something the school will look into but is a little more difficult due to storage of equipment when not in use.

The new booking and payment web page is not at all intuitive. As regular long term users of the service its introduction has caused us a lot of stress. It is not clear what slots are booked and payment made by child care vouchers is not reconciled in a timely fashion. I know the Conkers staff have found its introduction just as frustrating. Thankfully, Mrs Roe has been able to keep things on track for us.

With any change to a system that has been used before there will always be a few frustrations, but the efficiencies the on-line system has given staff of Conkers Clubs have been well worth a few teething problems.  We are always working with Kids Club to improve the service and will keep you updated with new developments.

Be great if the kids could get a proper dinner at this club.

Since the survey the food selection has been reviewed with healthier options, but there are no plans to provide an evening meal instead of a light tea.

Extremely well run clubs and I really like the new booking system.
