Year 4 – Bikeability Level 1

Chalkwell Hall Junior School are very keen to help pupils learn to live healthy lifestyles. Cycling is one of the easiest, cheapest and most enjoyable ways of keeping fit. We are keen for pupils to learn about the health and environmental benefits of cycling and to become safe independent travellers.

We are keen to encourage as many pupils and parents as possible to cycle to school. As well as the health benefits, cycling with your child can help to reduce congestion in the local area, especially during the school run.   Therefore we are offering Bikeability Level 1 training to all pupils in Year 4 on the following dates:

Monday 24th September 2018 Tuesday 25th September 2018
Class 4SR

10.15am – 12.15pm

Class 4TF

10.15am – 12.15pm

Class 4JW

1.10pm – 3.10pm

Class 4JT

1.10pm – 3.10pm

Bikeability is cycling proficiency for the 21st century.  Level 1 is for cyclists that can already ride a bike unaided to develop their skills and so be able to control their bikes safely and competently. If you would like more information on this initiative please visit the Bikeability website at  If your child cannot ride a bike unaided, they will still take part in a cycling lesson with their class teacher rather than the Cycle Southend team.

All sessions will take place in the school playground only.  Your child will need to bring their bike and helmet, which should be brought in on the day of their session.  Bikes can be brought through to the playground and left over by the far side of the library.  If your child does not have a bike, and/or helmet, please indicate on the slip on the letter as there will be a few bikes available to borrow.

Please complete the reply slip and return to the school office by Friday 21st September 2018.
