Last week’s Nuclear Race with Year 5 was a great team building success with everyone having a fantastic time working together, taking on new challenges, conquering fears and generally wallowing around in an awful lot of mud! We’ll post the pictures on facebook shortly so you can have a look at them. Also, now we have all the relevant permissions in place, we can also give you some long awaited pictures of Years 3&4 PGL from the summer term!
Year 6 are looking forward to a week of adventure and fun, either in Kent at Kingswood or more locally with Mr Maskell, on Monday. A good way to recover from the pressure of the 11+ for those involved – good luck to all our children who have chosen to give it a go. Year 3 are off to Thorndon Country Park and Year 4 are starting Bikeability – busy, busy, busy!
Reading aloud is invaluable to a child’s progress and there are only so many hours in the day so we always ask if there is anyone in our community who can spare an hour or two every week to help give children the opportunity to work on their reading skills. If you could, we would be really grateful! There’s a letter on the website https://chalkwellhall.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/volunteers-autumn-term-2018.pdf if you can help out.
If you are still having problems with SIMs Agora, our on-line payment system, please call in and speak to Mrs Leaback.
Hope you have settled back into the morning school run routine and a sense of normality has returned following the summer break! Fundraising events for the Autumn Term are now in full swing, with discounted theatre tickets now available for Annie, Matilda, Mamma Mia, Wicked & Grease. If you would like to purchase any of these, please email firstname.lastname@example.org urgently as they are selling fast!
Cash4Coins collections will start in each classroom on Monday 24th September 2018, so please bring in any left over foreign currency from your holidays or any new/old coins or notes to add to your child’s class collection. The class with the heaviest amount will win a prize and Cash4Coins will turn all the old, new, foreign and UK coins into much needed funds for our schools. Last year we raised £563.24, so let’s try to beat it!!!
Curry Night will be held at the Taj Mahal on Tuesday 2nd October at 7.30pm and will cost £12.50, everyone is welcome. It is a great opportunity to spend time with friends or make some new ones! Letters will be coming home with your children today, or you can email email@example.com for a copy.
Quiz Night will be held in the school dining hall on Friday 2nd November and will cost £5 per person. This year it will be hosted by the fabulous Clips ‘n’ Pieces so put it in the diary and book your babysitters! Letters will be sent home with children ASAP.
Don’t forget to like us on FaceBook – PTA CHS, as full details of all events are listed.
This week there were 20 instances of children arriving late to school. Every time a child arrives late to school, the maths lesson is disrupted for them and their classmates and valuable learning time is lost. Of course, on the odd occasion, it sometimes can’t be helped but regular lateness is a real barrier to a child making progress in school so let’s try and avoid it together as best we can. If you are having difficulty in getting your child in to school on time, please come and talk to us.
