Newsletter – 19th October 2018

The end of our first half term is here. It has been very successful both in and out of the classroom – long may it continue! It was great to see so many people in school this week for parent meetings, open afternoon and our first class assembly of the year too. There’s been a lovely buzz around school all week. With so much going on a rest for all the children, and definitely the staff, is in order and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and recharged after the half term break. Please remember that the children are due back on Tuesday 30th October 2018 – not the Monday!

We will be fundraising for Children in Need on Friday 16th November 2018 by having a non-uniform day. You are welcome to wear anything you like to show this year’s theme of ‘do your thing’. Please ensure that your child’s outfit is appropriate for classroom activities and the weather. You are welcome to donate a suggested amount of £1 on the day.

The 11+ and other selection tests have been and gone and results have been sent out to help you decide where to apply for your child’s secondary education. You must have applied before 31st October or you will be considered a “late application” and be processed only after everyone else has already been done. Please go to  http://www.southend.gov.uk/info/200176/school_admissions_and_home_education/47/secondary_school_admissions to apply.

You may be experiencing some problems with our on-line payment system SIMs Agora, the issues have been reported to Capita who are working to resolve them.  Please bear with us whilst these problems are investigated and resolved.  In the meantime, if you are unable to use SIMs Agora, please pay through the office with cash or cheque – made payable to Chalkwell Hall Junior School.  Please continue to report any problems to Mrs Leaback who will pass them on to Capita for resolution.

Finally, a reminder that our dining hall is available to hire outside of school hours for parties and other events – please contact the Infant school office for details if interested.

The Big Sleep In

17 children have been selected to represent their class in the Chalkwell Hall Big Sleep In challenge which will take place on Thursday 8th November 2018. Anyone doing the big sleep out at home over half term https://www.essexsleepout.org/ and raising money for HARP too can add their donations to the just giving link on Facebook, Twitter and Website to show that we are raising cash as a school community rather than individuals! Anyone can make a donation, just see the link https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/chalkwell-hall-junior-school

Sports news

Year 6 were in action in the park with a 3-1 win over St Pierre last Friday. A great performance played with the right attitude all the way through, the boys (some of them for the very first time) represented school brilliantly, well done!

Year 4 also took on St Pierre this week (again a first chance to represent school for some) and, while they ran out on the wrong side of a 3-1 scoreline, they never stopped working and did us proud with their team spirit and determination!

Our cross country team were in action again this week in the annual Thorpe Hall cross country relay meeting. The team performed amazingly well with high placing finishes, including golds, across all the teams. All 32 runners performed, represented us superbly and were a credit to the school – great work and lots of medals all round!

Our girls are in action at the borough tounament today at the Len Forge Centre – good luck!
