Weekly Newsletter – 2nd November 2018

The weather has taken a turn for the worse, and it certainly feels more autumnal, but it hasn’t dampened our spirits here at school as the children have come back from the half term break full of energy and raring to go!

All year groups have been working hard and Year 5 were enthralled, entertained and educated by scientists from Westcliff High School for Boys this week as their Science Roadshow came to Chalkwell Hall. The children got the chance to participate in all sorts of “high school” science experiments!

In the next couple of weeks there is lots coming up. We have Year 3 out visiting the library, a football tournament, more science roadshows, The Big Sleep in overnight in school and we will be fundraising for Children in Need on Friday 16th November 2018 by having a non-uniform day. Children are welcome to wear anything they like to show this year’s theme of ‘do your thing’.

Sports news

Our girls were in action at the Len Forge Football Centre on the last day of last half term in the annual borough tournament. They scored some cracking goals, played some lovely football and, most importantly, displayed a fantastic team spirit throughout making them brilliant representatives to send out and an absolute credit to our school. Four wins, three draws and only two losses (to the eventual top two teams), a great display all round – well done!

PTA news

Letters for Wonder Ice ice skating were sent home with children before half term and we have already pre-sold over half of the available skate slots, with 11am now sold out. If you would like to ensure your reservation please return your form and correct payment urgently. Any payments received without a form cannot be reserved so please ensure both are returned. Everyone who has made a reservation by 5th November will be notified their skate slot by 9th November latest.

We are looking for volunteers to help at the Christmas Fayre on Saturday 24th November and the Infant Bazaar on Thursday 6th December, so if you have any time to spare please email ptachalkwellhall@gmail.com.

We have now received Adventure Wonderland tickets and these will be returned to those that we have received payment from ASAP. If you would like to purchase any of these, please send payment into school in a clearly marked envelope ASAP.

We still have some discounted tickets available for Aladdin on Thursday 25th July 2019 at 2.30pm in London and Annie & Grease at the Cliffs Pavillion, Southend. If you would like to purchase any of these, please email ptachstheatre@gmail.com urgently as we have almost sold out!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to have an Appointmoor board advertising the Christmas Fayre, your support for this was overwhelming and these will be going up in the next couple of weeks.

Quiz Night is tonight in the school dining hall and entry is via the gate on Rockleigh Avenue. Please don’t forget extra money for the raffle, food and drink (alcohol allowed), as well as plates/glasses.

Attendance matters

Our overall attendance is 97.2%  This week there were only 16 instances of children arriving late to school which is great, thank you!
