Newsletter – 14th December 2018

Only 3 school days until the Christmas break but it’s still all go here at Chalkwell Hall. Today was Christmas Jumper Day for Save The Children and there were some cracking festive numbers on display! Last Saturday our choir performed at the yearly Christmas Fayre at Leigh Fire Station. The children sang seven festive songs in front of a large audience and represented the school beautifully. Mrs Dubouchet and Mr Winiberg would like to thank all those children who attended, taking time out of their busy Saturdays to give back to the community – you were fantastic! Movie night was a complete sell out yesterday evening with 9 festive films complete with drinks, popcorn and hotdogs!

Our children recently submitted a number of pieces of artwork into the St Pierre festive art competition.  The judges were wowed by our entries and have confirmed prizes for many of the children that have taken part. Awards will be announced at an exhibition in the school this coming Sunday 16th December from 4pm – 8pm. Fingers crossed!

Sports news

More firsts for Chalkwell Hall this week with our first ever entry into the sitting volleyball competition at Garon Park this week. More children representing us for the first time and coming away with bronze medals – great work! Our handball team were also at Garon Park on Wednesday and did brilliantly too. They only lost one game in the whole tournament (to the eventual winners) and came away with silver medals. A tremendous performance, well done!

PTA news

This week we have received fundraising updates on our Cash4Coins collection; your donations helped to raise £354.75!

We have managed to secure discounted tickets to see Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at The London Palladium when it returns to the stage this summer. We have tickets available at £45 in the Royal Circle at 7.30pm on Wednesday 31st July and Wednesday 14th August, as well as tickets for £25 in the Grand Circle at 2.30pm on Wednesday 14th August. Please note we must have payment before the Christmas holidays to secure these with the theatre. Please email ptachstheatre@gmail.com to secure yours today!

If you are a UK tax payer, please kindly complete the Gift Aid form that was sent out via email and return to school before the Christmas break so that the PTA can reclaim 25% on all your donations (25p for every £1), at no additional cost to yourself.  This is a great way to boost our funds! Please note you only need to complete one form regardless of how many children you have at the school, please just include all names on the form. Thank you in advance.

Please don’t forget to become a member of the Co-op AND register your cause as our school. The Co-op have kindly chosen to support our school again in their local community fund project. Every time you shop at Co-op, 1% of what you spend on selected own-branded products will be donated to our school. Last year, this raised over £3,300 for our schools! If you are already a Co-op member, please go online and register your cause as Chalkwell Schools PTA. If you are not yet a member, please sign up today and help raise funds for our schools every time you shop at Co-op!

Our final Christmas fundraiser, the Festive Fun Run, will take place on Wednesday 19th December during school hours at Chalkwell Park. Every child is invited to run with a festive hat of their choice or to decorate their hair with tinsel, but please feel free to really enter the spirit of the event and wear a full Christmas outfit if you have one! A small Christmas treat will be given to every child that takes part.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your wonderful support and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas & a happy New Year!

Attendance matters

Our overall attendance is 96%.  This week there were 38 instances of children arriving late to school.
