Happy new year one and all! It’s great to be back in the swing of things at school and we have been straight into our usual busy routines with loads going on as always. Clubs are up and running, sports events have started and we had our first class assembly of the new year too.
Year groups have all been starting off their new topics in style and none more so than Year 6 who had a medieval day. They explored Medieval History from the Roman period through to the Tudor period and we had a visitor running workshops with the children talking to them about armour, warfare and crime and punishment in medieval times. Some great outfits were worn, by both children and staff, and they enjoyed a fascinating day of learning.
Another sporting first for Chalkwell Hall as this week our Year 6 basketball team won the Southend Borough Tournament for the first time ever! Some bruising encounters in the first stage of the competition saw the team come second in their group to progress to the “super tens”. They topped the second group to progress to the semi-final and then on to the final where they defeated Heycroft Primary to come away as champions! A fantastic effort and on to the Essex finals next week in Colchester. A fantastic effort, team – well done!
Our boys are playing at the annual 6-a-side tournament at Bournes Green tomorrow – good luck!
Happy New Year and we hope you all had a lovely break. Thank you for all your wonderful support last term, we had the most successful autumn term to date! We are excited for all our forthcoming fundraisers for the spring and summer terms, with dates for your diaries to be advised ASAP.

Furthermore, our friends at the Co-op have set up an online survey where customers can comment on their shopping experience with the chance of winning £250 in gift vouchers every month. The survey is called “Your store, your say” All comments made on the survey are fed back to store and where possible acted on.
