Newsletter – 25th January 2019

Our children have been out and about again this week representing us as brilliantly as ever in our community. Our Glee Club spent their Monday evening club time at Catherine Miller House, a local residential care home, performing a range of songs for the residents. They sang beautifully and brightened up many a day. Next up is a performance at the O2 arena on Monday – good luck!

Our basketball team made it through to the Essex finals for the first time in Chalkwell Hall’s history last Friday and made it through to the latter stages of the tournament. They got all the way to the semi-finals and then won the 3rd/4th place playoff to come away with bronze medals – an outstanding effort against the very best in the county!

More locally, we had our Year 5 & 6 boys playing two matches against Our Lady of Lourdes, winning 5-0 and 4-1, and also our Year 4 boys playing at the Len Forge Centre today against the rest of the borough schools.

As always, it has been an absolute pleasure to watch so many of our children displaying their talents at the various events we attend and see their hard work paying off – well done team Chalkwell!

PTA news

Can you help?

Match funding – Many companies throughout the UK offer employees the chance to boost their charity fundraising efforts by ‘matching’ the money they raise. It really is money for nothing and, with your support, our PTA could double the amount of cash you help to raise, through either donating to or by volunteering at future events, with very little effort.

Not all companies offer match funding but those that do will pledge a sum of money relating to the amount an employee has raised for or donated to a charity (often £ for £). Generally speaking, banks and building societies, insurance companies, supermarkets, utility providers, phone companies and car manufacturers are known historically to offer match funding schemes. If you plan to volunteer to help at PTA events or may donate to the PTA charity in the future then please contact your companies Human Resources department to check whether they operate such a scheme. As an example, one parent, who volunteered to help on a stall at our Summer Fete last year, was given a £500 donation to the PTA by their employer from match funding. Contributions like this make a huge difference to the success of the PTA and the support we can give to our school so if you are able to help us in this way please email

Sponsorship – If you have your own business or work for a local business then you may be interested in sponsoring a stall or placing an advert in the events programme for our 2019 Summer Fete. As many of you will know, our Summer Fete is a very popular and well attended event and this year we would like to support our local businesses by offering them the opportunity to advertise and promote themselves at our largest event of the year. In exchange for a donation to the PTA (to be discussed) we would be happy to include details of your businesses on the relevant sponsored stalls as well as in promotional materials we produce for the fete including newsletters, posters and event programmes which are distributed to all school parents as well as in the local community. If you would like the opportunity to be stall sponsor or place an advert then please send an email with your phone number to and we will contact you to discuss.
