What a busy week here at Chalkwell Hall! World book day was as well supported as ever with lots of mystery books being brought in to school for children to figure out the titles from the clues and plenty of wonderful costumes for those that fancied dressing up.
Year 5 had a great time at Chase High’s Science show – hopefully a few budding scientists have been inspired for the future after all the different experiments and hair raising experiences they had !
Our talented and creative pupils have been snapping away for our photography competition recently and the two winners have been selected from an array of brilliant photos. Sammy Baldwin and Iris Ford with two fantastic shots of nature scenes taking the plaudits. Well done both!
We’ve had a very busy and successful week on the sports front too. The boys played two football matches and competed really well to come away with a win and a defeat. The girls are playing this evening – good luck!
Our Borough Champion Kurling team went to play in the Essex finals on Monday and did superbly to end up as 4th best in the whole of the county!
Our upper and lower school athletics teams competed at Garons this week and both came a very creditable 5th overall which bodes well for the Borough Sports later in the year.
Our girls did even better with the borough netball tournament. Competing against a host of very strong teams, the girls grew in confidence and skill as the tournament progressed, playing some fantastic netball and working superbly well as a team throughout to go through to the semis and the final playing against previous champions, to finish as champions for 2019! A first for Chalkwell Hall and absolutely deserved for the girls who have worked their socks off in training and in matches this year. We are absolutely delighted for the team and very proud of how well they represent us with their sporting attitude in all games – very well done! And thanks go to our traveling supporters for turning out in not very pleasant conditions to cheers our teams on at all our events – good work parents!
Now the votes sent in before the deadline have been counted for the three candidates, we have a new parent Governor joining our team. We welcome David Baldwin to our Governing Body and would like to thank the many of you that voted and our other candidates – it’s great to see the level of involvement and that we have so many people willing to offer their time to help us as a school.
The PTA is moving online
Over the last year we have been looking at ways to streamline much of the PTA administration for both ourselves and the schools to try and avoid, wherever possible, the endless form filling by parents and carers and cash payments via the school. As a result of this we have completed the first step in our plan and are taking the PTA online for ticket and wristband sales. The PTA now has its own events website, which can be accessed via the link below:
We plan to use the site as an additional way of keeping our school community informed of upcoming PTA events and to sell tickets & wristbands online not only for PTA events like Go Bonkers but also for the discounted tickets to Adventure Island and West End & local theatre shows.
In order to make the site a success we are asking that, if at all possible, all parents, carers, grandparents etc register to use the site by using the link above, clicking on the blue “register box” at the bottom of the page and filling in the required details. Please ensure you also click on each of the “I agree boxes” so we are able to contact you and keep you informed.
The website has been set up but we are not yet selling any tickets or wristbands but intend to go live in the next couple of weeks initially for the sale online of all Go Bonkers and Adventure Island wristbands with theatre tickets sales to follow in due course. In the meantime, we would ask that you register to use the site as soon as possible, but for now continue to contact the PTA via the email address below for theatre ticket sales or send in requests and cash via the school office for Adventure Island wristbands.
|Please note the operation of the site would not be possible without the fantastic support and sponsorship received from a number of local businesses including Argosy Toys, Coulson James & Planet Leasing.
Grand National sweepstake
Later in the year we are planning to run an adult’s only horse racing evening in the school dining hall (televised horses – not real!!). Following on from this, the PTA are planning to hold the first ever “Chalkwell Hall Schools Grand National Sweepstake” for the race being run on 6 April 2019. Full details will be sent out early next week for what we hope will be an exciting and for some financially rewarding event.
