Year 5 Trip to the Hindu Mandir at Neasden

This term Year 5 will be studying India and its culture, and a trip to the Hindu Mandir at Neasden will provide an emersive way to deepen their understanding of India’s main religion. It will also help to improve our children’s awareness and understanding of different religious groups within our own communities.

The session, guided by staff at the Mandir, will explain the importance of different rituals, deities and beliefs to Hindus. They will also be given a tour of the remarkably ornate building itself, and have the opportunity to observe an arti ceremony. During this ceremony, boys and girls will be seated separately in line with Hindu practice.

The trip will take place on Tuesday 7th May 2019. The year group will all be travelling together via coach or school minibus, and on the day of the trip your child will need to be at school for 8.00am so that we can leave by 8.15am. We aim to return at approximately 3.45pm.

As we will be visiting a place of worship, there is a strict dress code within the complex. Specifically, tops must cover the shoulders, chest, navel, and upper arms. Leg-wear must be at least below knee-length. It is also customary to remove footwear upon entering some parts of the complex.  Children should wear their school uniform for this visit.

All children will be required to bring a healthy snack, drink of water and a packed lunch. If your child is eligible for free school meals and requires a packed lunch provided by the school, please indicate on the letter which has been sent out today.  If you are able to assist with either of these trips, please also indicate on the letter return slip.

When organising school activities which will enrich the curriculum experience of the children, the school invites parents to contribute towards the cost. The cost of this trip is £13, including the cost of coach travel.  Our preferred method of payment is on-line through SIMs Pay.  If you have not yet registered on the system, please contact a member of the office staff who will provide you with an up to date reference number.  All contributions are voluntary, and unfortunately if we do not receive sufficient contributions, we will have to cancel this visit.

Please return the permission slip to your child’s class teacher in an envelope marked with your child’s name by Tuesday 30th April. If you are unable to contribute financially please inform your child’s teacher by letter.
