The best weeks at Chalkwell Hall are when there is lots going on and this week was certainly one of those! We kicked off with Greek Day for Year 3 and they really got into the spirit of things with great outfits and exciting activities to enthuse them for their summer topic learning.
The children had a very busy week on the sporting side too. Last Friday our cross country teams and individuals who had progressed from the borough competition went to the Essex finals at Hadleigh Country Park and took on a demanding course. They all ran superbly and did themselves proud with some excellent individual and team results.
Our girls took on Prince Avenue and Rochford Primary in a mini tournament yesterday evening. For a number of them it was their first time representing school at football and they all did so brilliantly. Today we have a boccia and kurling match against Prince Avenue here at school and, again, for the vast majority it will be their first time representing school. Good luck team!
At Garon Park on Tuesday and Wednesday the girls, followed by the boys, competed in the annual borough cricket tournament. The girls played brilliantly, winning all their games to come away as borough champions and progress to the Essex finals later in the year and then the boys repeated that achievement on Wednesday! To have so many of our children getting involved in the extra things that school has to offer, and that our dedicated staff work so hard to provide these opportunities, makes me very proud and long may it continue. The most important thing to us is that the attitude and behaviour of all the children that go out and represent us has been fantastic – the trophies are just a bonus!
One of our governors, Mrs Sanders, has been in school and wanted to share with you what she was focusing on: The Social, Moral, Cultural and Spiritual elements of the school are vital to ensuring a happy, supportive and healthy school. One way to see if the school is doing all it should be doing in this respect is from the children themselves – do they feel safe at school? Are they satisfied with how poor behaviour is managed? Are they happy? I was fortunate to be able to come in recently and chat to a lovely group of children (either Junior Governors or Eco Warriors) about these matters and more, such as about keeping safe online. It was great to hear them tell me that the school is friendly and supportive, that they trust their teachers, they know what the core values are. They know what is expected of them at school. The children told me they feel safe, explained how they are taught about e-safety and we also discussed school dinners. They were a friendly, chatty bunch of children and it was great to be able to come in to hear first-hand their experiences of the school.
Thank you to everyone who attended the quiz night last Friday and to our hosts Clips and Pieces. The event, which was very well received and a lot of fun, raised a fantastic £750 for the school.
Wristbands for the first session are now sold out but, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to attend, we have extended the final possible date for online purchases of the “Second Session” wristbands to Friday 10th May 2019. If you would like to join us at the event, could you please purchase your wristbands as soon as possible from the PTA website using the link below and then select “Go Bonkers – Late session” from the “What’s on” list. https://www.pta-events.co.uk/chalkwellhallpta. Please note, a wristband will be required for each child to gain access to the event and those purchased will be sent home via the school to the child noted on each booking in the week ending 10th May 2019.
In order for the event to be allowed to run it is essential that we have sufficient volunteers to supervise the children on the inflatables as well as helping out on the refreshment stalls and so we are urgently asking for your support. If you are available to help out at either session please email the PTA as soon as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have previously mentioned the generous donations we receive from the Co-op where they have kindly agreed to support our school for the entire year in their local community fund which means that every time members purchase selected Co-op branded products, 1% of their value will be donated to our school. In the first half of this year the amount donated is already in excess of £1,000 so please continue to support our school by either becoming a member of the Co-op, which you can do both in store and online or, if you are already a member, please ensure the cause you support when shopping is registered as the Chalkwell Schools PTA.
Summer Fete raffle
The date for the PTA Summer Fete is fast approaching and in line with last year, we are planning another raffle but to make this as big an event as possible we would ask for your generosity in donating items that we could offer as prizes. If you or perhaps your employer have any items that might be suitable please email the PTA at email@example.com.
We announced earlier this week our latest two offers of discounted tickets to the Olivier award-winning West End and Broadway show of “Beautiful – The Carole King Musical” at the Cliff Pavilion on Saturday 2nd May 2020 and, following its record-breaking run in London’s West End, “The Woman in Black” appearing at the Palace Theatre on Saturday 18th January 2020.
