Newsletter – 17th May 2019

It is this time of the year that we start looking at arrangements for September. We have no hard and fast rules on this other than we look at each cohort every year and assess their needs to decide whether we leave them as they are or mix them up. As Year 5 move into Year 6 we have the luxury of being able to have smaller classes of 24 rather than 30 giving children more space and time to have access to their teacher. We ask the children to volunteer, either as individuals or groups, to move away from their existing class and into the new 5th class. This means children that are happy to move can volunteer to and those that would rather stay can also choose to – so they get to stay within groups they are happy with either way, which is hopefully win win!

We will be building a new classroom over the summer holidays so we will be in a position to reduce our class sizes in Year 5 to 24 as well. As the classes were mixed for the start of Year 4 we will operate the same volunteering option as above for our classes moving into Year 5.

We will be mixing our Year 3 into new classes for the start of Year 4 as they have been together quite a while now.

When arranging new classes we take into consideration the professional opinion of the class teachers who have been working with the children all year and know them better than anyone academically. We take into account learning behaviours and the balance of boys/girls/additional needs and ability levels so that all classes are in the best position to succeed. Please bear in mind that we are aiming to make the classroom your child is in the best learning environment possible to maximise their potential and that doesn’t necessarily mean they will be with all of their best friends. We do, of course, take into account their friendship groups; however, having your best mate next to you all the time in class doesn’t always mean you are at your concentrating best!

Our girls have the opportunity to play football at Roots Hall today. The Year 3&4 girls after doing so well in their tournament earlier in the year and the Year 5&6 girls after winning the league – good luck all!

Our Eco Warriors would like to thank everyone for the brilliant support that they have given to the Big Battery Hunt Competition. The competition has now closed and we eagerly await the results. That doesn’t mean the effort stops there – we can still carry on recycling batteries, in just the same way, and continue to help the environment, so please continue to bring in any old batteries and put them in our recycling bin.

Sports day change

We have had loads of sporting success this year but this sometimes leads to clashes in our busy diary. After winning the borough cricket trophy, our Year 5&6 boys are now playing in the Essex finals on the same day as we have down for sports day so we are going to move sports day to the following day, Wednesday 3rd July. Apologies for any inconvenience, and hopefully this gives enough time to rearrange, but we’d like all the children to be able to take part in sports day. Also, I’m doing the cricket too and I can’t be in two places at once!

Jobs at school

We have been contracting out our cleaning to a company for the last few years but we are now looking to recruit our own team of in-house cleaners at Chalkwell Hall. We are looking for 4 cleaners and 1 cleaning supervisor. Cleaners will be required from 4pm to 6:15 and the Supervisor will be required from 4pm to 6:30pm. If you or anyone you know might be interested please have a look at the adverts on our website

Go Bonkers

Thank you to everyone who is supporting our fundraising by attending the fun filled Go Bonkers event this afternoon, we hope you all have a fantastic time. We would also like to say a BIG thank you to all the parents and staff who have volunteered to help out. For this event in particular we really couldn’t run it without you so your help is very much appreciated.

PTA Website

The online sales through our new website appears to have gone pretty smoothly so far but just one point to note. If your booking has properly completed you will always receive an email confirmation a few minutes later. If no email arrives then the booking would not have completed and no money would have been charged to your account so please always ensure you receive the email when purchasing tickets or wristbands.

Adventure Island ticket sales – PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE BELOW

For next week only our arrangements for the selling of discounted Adventure Island wristbands will be changing. The wristbands will NOT be available online but can be purchased either from Coulson James on the Leigh Road or directly from either the Infants or Junior school offices but you MUST have the correct money when purchasing wristbands from the schools as no change will be available.

As a reminder:

Green wristbands for children up to 1.2m tall are £13 each

Blue wristbands for children over 1.2m tall are £16 each

After half term we will return to the online sale arrangements for Adventure Island bands.
