Newsletter – 7th June 2019

Welcome back, I hope everyone had a great half term. We’ve got straight back into the swing of things with Bikeability for Year 6, secondary schools coming in to speak to the children ahead of their move to “big school”, the borough swimming gala and today we are off to East Sussex again for this year’s PGL trip. 150 Children and 15 adults off for adventure in the sun – fingers crossed! Lots of fears will be faced, lots of fun will be had and I’m pretty sure very little sleep will be the norm. For those collecting children on Sunday, I’ll be back before the coaches to let you on to the playground. Please be patient when collecting – everyone will be very tired! My thanks to the staff who are willing, once again, to give up their weekends to give the children this amazing opportunity.

Year 6 have been learning how to be safe on the roads on their bikes, essential as they move off to secondary school in September. Lots of the children have definitely increased their awareness this week – good stuff! After winning the Borough B swimming tournament last year, our swimming team competed in the A league this week and the step up was noticeable. Our boys and girls did us proud, showed great Chalkwell team spirit and, as a bonus, we were informed by the organisers that we were the best behaved school there! We are proud of them as always.

Some of our pupils entered artwork into a competition based at St Pierre School and we have some prize winners who have been personally invited to attend an awards ceremony to receive their prizes. We also have a few children who have won prizes for being a ‘budding artist’.  Please invite your friends and family down to Saint Pierre to visit the exhibition and take part in the Children’s art trail and Art trail in general.  There will be lots of activities going on at Saint Pierre, Library Gardens and all around the Leigh on Sea community. Exhibition & activities take place on Saturday 8th June – 10am-5pm, Sunday 9th June – 11am-3pm, Saturday 15th June – 10am-5pm and Sunday 16th June – 11am-3pm.

One of our uniform suppliers, Pauls, has just released their summer price list. Please see the link for details:

Welcome back to all, we hope you had a fun and “relaxing” half term.  This is an exciting month for the PTA when we host our biggest event of the year, the Summer Fete – full details of which will follow shortly.

Next week, we will be sending out details of and raffle tickets for our PTA Summer Raffle. The fantastic prizes this year include an overnight campervan experience, a weekend Jaguar car experience, tickets to see Florence and the Machine at the British Summertime music festival in Hyde Park, an evening out including dinner at Lords, the home of English cricket, to see Essex v Middlesex in the T20 Vitality Blast, £100 cash plus many more exciting prizes.

The Summer Fete is our biggest fundraiser of the year and the money we collect from the raffle makes a big difference to the funds we are able to provide to our wonderful schools so we hope you can support us, as you have done so amazingly in the past, by either buying tickets yourself or selling them to family and friends.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has either donated their time or a prize to support the raffle this year.

Adventure Island ticket sales

Discounted tickets for Adventure Island, featuring the all new £1m white knuckle ride “Axis” are once again available to buy on the PTA website. Madam Butterfly

If you have always wanted to experience a night at the Opera but have been put off by the high price tag we are delighted to announce that we have reserved discounted tickets in rows H to J of the central stalls for the award winning “Madam Butterfly” which is being performed for one night only at the Cliffs Pavilion on Friday 27 March 2020 at 7:30pm. One of the world’s most popular operas, Puccini’s Madam Butterfly tells the heart-breaking story of a beautiful young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant – with dramatic results!
