Newsletter – 14th June 2019

We have just about made it to the end of the week after another very successful PGL trip with Year 3&4. Very little sleep but lots and lots of fun with 150 children all taking on challenges, facing their fears and (sort of) learning how to pack a bag themselves! My enormous thanks to the 15 staff (and particularly Mr Robinson who organises it) who gave up their weekends away from their families to give our children such a wonderful opportunity.

Last night was the annual music festival at the Cliffs Pavilion and it was just as fantastic as usual. Our talented musicians and singers, along with the other schools on the stage, performed brilliantly and entertained us from start to finish. A tremendous showcase of the talent we have in school and across the area!

Our Year 3s have also been out and about as part of their studies in Southend. They always do well on trips and this time I even received a phone call to say how well they represented us while out in public – great work Year 3!

Our Year 6 boys represented us at football in a mini tournament against Earls Hall and Leigh North Street on Monday and did us proud. A number of the boys were playing their first ever match for school and they all did brilliantly with fantastic sporting attitudes and great team spirit on display!

The Rounders was called off again for Year 6 due to the rather unseasonal weather but we have been asked to represent Southend in the Essex finals due to how well the team performed when in Year 5!

And finally, a couple of reminders. We’ve had a number of people move house or change mobile phone number over the last few months, please make sure we have up to date contact details for you. Also, please remember that we do not allow dogs on school grounds – no matter how small, friendly or cute!

New build

We are delighted to hear that the Infant School is now able to progress with its vision to create a new state of the art classroom block and are excited to be able to support the school in fundraising for the fit out of these classrooms.

As a registered charity, we are able to claim Gift Aid on donations made by UK taxpayers to the PTA which increases the amount of each donation by 25%. As such, we have registered with, a not for profit organisation, that will process and pay to our charity 100% (including the associated Gift Aid) of all donations, up to £1,000 each.

If you would like to make a donation (up to £1,000) to this special fundraiser, please click on the link below where you will be taken to the charity’s “Infant School classroom fit out” sponsorship page and where you will find a wonderfully entertaining video from the Infant School children explaining why this project is so important to them.

If you wish to make an extremely generous donation, in excess of the £1,000 limit set by, please contact the Infant School reception where arrangements can be made for collection of both the donation and Gift Aid.

Please note:

The site includes 2 pages for our PTA charity. The first for the Classroom fit out fundraiser, accessed via the link above, plus a second page where General donations can be made to our usual fundraising, which this year includes the replacement of the playground treehouse. On our pages of the website, if you click the “Sponsor” or “Sponsor Chalkwell Hall” green buttons that will enable you to make a donation just to the Classroom fit out fundraiser. If you click on the green “Donate now” button, that will allow you to make a general donation to our usual fundraising for both schools.

Match funding

Following on from the classroom fit out fundraiser above and in advance of our biggest event of the year, the Summer Fete, we would once again ask, if you work for a company that operates a “match funding” scheme, that you consider registering the PTA as your nominated charity.

Not all companies offer match funding but those that do will pledge a sum of money relating to the amount an employee has raised for or donated to their nominated charity (often £ for £). Generally speaking, banks and building societies, insurance companies, supermarkets, utility providers, phone companies and car manufacturers are known historically to offer match funding schemes. So, if you plan to volunteer to help at our Summer Fete or make a donation to the PTA charity then please contact your company’s Human Resources department to check whether they operate such a scheme.

Just to repeat the example we previously mentioned, one parent, who volunteered to help on a stall at our Summer Fete last year, was given a £500 donation to the PTA by their employer from match funding. Contributions like this make a huge difference to the success of the PTA and the support we can give to the schools so if you are able to help us in this way please email

Village Green

Just a reminder that Southend’s best loved arts and music festival returns to Chalkwell Park on Saturday 17th July 2019. If you plan to attend please purchase tickets via the link below to raise £1 per ticket for the PTA at no additional cost to yourselves.

Attendance matters

Our overall attendance is 96%.   This week there were 48 lates, but 25 of those were on the morning after the PGL with a lot of very tired Year 3&4s!
