Newsletter – 21st June 2019

We have had a lot of success in the sporting arena over the last few years and this year has been particularly trophy laden. We have been runners up in the borough’s most prestigious competition on a number of occasions and the team really wanted to go one step further this time around. The children have been working hard at lunchtimes and after school with the support of many of our dedicated team to prepare for the event and our athletics squad of over 60 certainly delivered! The team performed superbly, all chipping in with points from their events and many coming away with individual medals and moving on to the “SuperSports” event on July 1st and 2nd. Our Year 6 boys even managed to break the borough record for the 4×100 relay! A wonderful afternoon of high quality athletics and a deserved victory for a talented and, just as importantly, hard-working team who represented Chalkwell Hall brilliantly – well done all, we are very proud of you!

Our Year 6s are representing Southend today at the Essex Rounders Finals in Saffron Walden – good luck!

The Junior Governors would like to thank everyone for the kind contributions they have made to our Southend Foodbank collection, the response has been brilliant. We are going to continue to collect items for the Foodbank, so any further contributions will be gratefully received.

The Eco-Warriors are holding a Waste Free Lunch on Thursday. The class with the lowest amount of waste will win 15 minutes extra break which is always a popular prize! The Eco-Warriors team will be giving an assembly on Monday to let everyone know all about it.

School website

We have updated the PTA page on each school’s website to include refreshed details not only of the PTA and our fundraising but also to provide links to both the “PTA Events and Ticket Sales website” as well as the recently announced “ donation site” – where donations can be made for either the Infant School classroom fit out or General donations in connection with the PTA’s usual fundraising (which this year includes, amongst other things, the replacement of the playground Treehouse with new, modern play equipment).

To access the PTA page, simply click on the drop-down menu of each school’s website, select “Parents” then “PTA” and you will find details about the PTA including, on the first page directly below the cheque photograph, links to each of the donation and ticket sales sites.

Infant School fundraiser

We would like to send a “BIG” thank you to those of you who have already made a donation to the fit out of the new Infant School classrooms.

As was announced last week, the Infant School have, after a lengthy struggle, managed to obtain funding and planning consent for the new classroom block but are looking for our help to raise money for the fit out of these classrooms. If you are able to help us with this special fundraiser then please donate via the link below. Your support, at whatever amount, will make a big difference to the facilities the school will be able to offer in the new classrooms for both the children currently attending the school and for future generations, so please help us if you can.

Ticket sales

In addition to the usual Adventure Island wristbands we are currently selling, on the Events and ticket sales website, the following discounted tickets for shows at the Cliffs Pavilion. Our closing date for the sale of tickets to all these shows will be 30th September 2019. If you would like to attend then please purchase tickets at your earliest convenience to avoid disappointment.

  • If you would like to take part and be in with a chance of winning one of the exciting prizes on offer in our Summer Fete raffle this year don’t forget to send in, via each school, your payment and tickets (with your name and phone number written on the back of each ticket) at the latest by Friday 28th June 2019.

And finally – Thank you to those of you that spotted the typo in the PTA newsletter last week which made reference to the Village Green music festival being on Saturday 17th July 2019. The correct date should have been Saturday 13th July 2019.

Attendance matters

Our overall attendance is 96%.   This week there were 24 lates which is nice and low again – thank you!
