Newsletter – 5th July 2019

A very hot and sporty week at school. Temperatures at another very well attended summer fete were pretty extreme at the weekend – I’ve only just recovered from manning the BBQ! Our thanks to all who attended and even more so to all who gave up their time to help set up, run stalls and tidy away – not an easy job in sweltering conditions!

We had a fantastic sports day on Wednesday with lots of fun and some very competitive parent races. Thank you for all your support, it was lovely to have so many of our community together in the park!

Our talented young sports stars were at it again this week with the boys and the girls both reaching the Essex finals and representing Chalkwell Hall brilliantly at Billericay Cricket Club. A tremendous crowd supported us on both days and were treated to some great cricket and some even better sportsmanship. I couldn’t be prouder of the attitude, teamwork and effort our teams showed and to finish this year as the 6th and 7th best teams in the whole of Essex is just a bonus!

Our athletes, fresh from borough sports success, took to the track and field in the “Super Sports” competition which is for the very best in Southend where all the individual winners from the 4 borough competitions go head to head. The amount of success stories is staggering with Gold in 600m, Yr 6 ball throwing, Yr 4 standing long jump, Yr 3&4 sprints, 4x100m relay in Yr 4 boys & girls, Yr 5 boys and Yr 6 boys, backed up by silvers or bronze in Yr 3 sprint, Yr 4 400m, Yr 3 4x100m relay, Yr 6 sprint, Yr 6 shot putt, Yr 6 long jump, Yr 6 ball throwing as well!

A remarkable year for our athletes and deserved reward for hard work and a great attitude, well done team Chalkwell! Way too many trophies and medal pictures to put all of them on here – they will be on our Facebook page!

That’s it for sporting fixtures this year. We are delighted with how hard our children have worked and how well they have represented school – go Team Chalkwell!

A quick reminder from the office – please remember to pick up medication on the last day.
