We are drawing closer to the end of the year but there is still so much going on in school.
We had a visit from Kirk Edwards in assembly on Monday and are delighted that we have been recognised for our commitment to primary school sport by the SPSSA (Southend Primary School Sports Association) and have been awarded the “School Of The Year” trophy. We have had a fantastic year in competitions but this award also recognises how hard we work to give as many pupils as possible the chance to represent school and the brilliant attitude that our young athletes show when they are competing. Go Team Chalkwell – we couldn’t be prouder!
Our talented artists had their designs used at last week’s Village Green. The flag designs were displayed at The N-Act Theatre Tent on Saturday. 100 of their pictures were scanned onto fabric in order to hang them, and the other flags were all presented in folders for people to look through. There are lots of pictures on our Facebook page of the fantastic designs.
Our last serious sports fixture saw us enter two teams of girls into the SUFC football tournament. They both played really well, despite the rain, and ended up facing each other in the final. The game was so close that it had to be decided by penalties and Chalkwell came away with 1st place and runners up! Well done girls, a great end to a very impressive year of sport!
This week we have also had some fun matches taking place with parents taking on our champion netballers and the staff taking on the champion cricketers and footballers. I think the children showed the adults how it should be done in most cases!
We have just received our End of Key Stage 2 (SATs) results. Our whole school results are based upon the percentage of pupils scoring at or above the 100 mark after they are standardised. They are another great, and continually improving, set of results that puts us way above national averages. We are very proud of how hard all the children in school work and how well our staff help them to learn. Below are Chalkwell Hall’s results compared to the 2018 or 2019 national averages (not all of the 2019 data is available yet). Well done all!
|At Expected Standard 100+ (2019 National average in brackets)||82% (73%)||88% (78%)||90%
|Greater Depth/Exceeding 110+ (2018 National average in brackets)||39% (28%)||52% (34%)||51%
|Average scaled score (2019 National average in brackets)||106.8
And finally from me this week, a reminder for parents to please make sure that all dinner money and Conkers fees are paid up by the end of term and some important news from Leigh Cricket Club. As most of the school seems to head over to the park on the final day of school they have asked us to let you know that the clubhouse bar will be open should you be in need of some refreshment!
Governor news – Mrs Sanders
What a year it’s been, with all the trips and activities, the sports achievements and all the extra-curricular clubs. Plus there have been all the other opportunities for the children to take place in competitions outside the school – drama, dance, music and so on.
Then there have been the incredible efforts of the PTA – parents, teachers and other staff who’ve worked so hard over the year creating fabulous events for our children. I feel we’re so fortunate to have such parents and staff who give up their time to organise these events. Most recently, of course, we had the school fete, and it was great to see the Junior and the Infant schools coming together to put on this wonderful afternoon for the whole school community and beyond. Thanks too are due to the individuals involved in organising the current Year 6 leavers’ events. Finally, a huge thank you goes out to all the teachers who’ve done such a fantastic job and who’ve put in so much over the year, and to everyone else at the school who has worked away behind the scenes. Have a great summer.
What a fantastic year we have had fundraising with the most wonderful events including Curry Night, Cash4Coins, 2 Quiz Nights, Pre-Loved Uniform Sales, an amazing Christmas Fayre with ice skating, Santa’s Grotto, 2 Christmas Bazaars, Junior Movie Night, Infant Movie Afternoon, Festive Fun Run, Easter Eggstravaganza, Bunny Hop, Go Bonkers and the Summer Fete!! Following the success of last year, we have also offered discounted theatre tickets to over 20 fabulous shows in London’s West End and locally at the Cliffs Pavilion. Our sincerest thank yous go to everyone who has kindly donated, volunteered and supported us; we couldn’t do it without you!!! We’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the fundraising and hope you have too!!!
WE NEED YOU! We would love you to join us bringing new energy and new ideas. So even if you are a bit unsure please email firstname.lastname@example.org and you can have a chat with one of us about the PTA. Currently we only have 6 active members; 4 who are working too. It can be fun, it can be hard work but it is incredibly rewarding. Come on, you know you want to! Our AGM will be held in September (date to be confirmed), where everyone is welcome and committee members will be elected; we hope to see you then.
Don’t forget you can purchase your discounted tickets for Adventure Island throughout the Summer Holidays at Coulson James on Leigh Broadway. Green £13 / Blue £16
