Newsletter – 11th October 2019

We will be holding our Big Sleep In on Thursday 7th November for 18 pupils chosen by their classmates.

This is our 4th year of raising money for HARP, as chosen by the children of our school. Last year, our target was £1500 and we smashed it, raising over £1800! So whether you are the one child voted by your classmates to rise to the Big Sleep In challenge at school on Thursday 7th November or you choose to raise money by hosting a sleepover in your house or garden between now and the 16th December, every penny counts! If you would like to donate, our Just Giving page is

If your child is chosen, you will receive a letter on the 14th October with full details which must be returned by Friday 18th October. A brief parent meeting will be held at 3:30pm on Tuesday 22nd October to answer any questions that you may have about the event.

Please could I take this chance to remind parents to let us know if there is a change to the usual picking up arrangements for your child as it will help speed up going home and make life a lot easier for teachers sending children home!

A reminder that the school dinner menu is on a 2 week rotation. Next week is week 1. You can find the menu here

My last reminder is that clubs will still be going ahead next week even though parent meetings are taking place.

PGL for Years 3&4

You will have received a letter recently about the PGL trip. Please don’t try and send money in yet as the SIMS Pay system is set up to receive payments from the 24th October (the day after the meeting). There’s no rush and we will have enough places for everyone!

Sports news

Our Year 5&6 boys played against Earls Hall Primary School on Tuesday in a mini tournament. Our two teams played against their two teams and performed superbly recording 2 wins and 2 draws in the 4 matches. There was some great football on display with a few cracking goals too!

We also sent our footballers off to Milton Hall Primary yesterday and, again, they represented us brilliantly but couldn’t quite get a win on this occasion. Fantastic sportsmanship and attitudes in all games – well played team Chalkwell!

We have had the results back from last week’s huge cross country competition where 26 schools competed and we came 5th overall. Each team results were as follows:

Girls, Year 3 – 11th, Year 4 – 6th, Year 5 – 5th, Year 6 – 6th.

Boys, Year 3 – 11th, Year 4 – 7th, Year 5 – 1st, Year 6 – 7th.

A tremendous effort all round and some of our runners will be competing in the Essex finals – great work!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Tuesday for Curry Night, it was lovely to see you all and hope you had a great evening. With your wonderful support we raised over £250!

Quiz Night will be held in the school dining hall on Friday 8th November at 8pm and will cost £5 per person; teams are a maximum of 8 but you don’t need a team to take part. The fabulous Clips and Pieces will be hosting the evening again, so return your slip with correct payment ASAP to guarantee your space and we look forward to spending an evening of fun and laughter with you! Letters have been sent home with children today.
