Newsletter – 8th November 2019

You may see some very tired children and teachers at the end of the day today and that’s because last night 18 children and 8 adults braved the Big Sleep In to raise money for HARP. In an effort to replicate and understand a little better the conditions faced by people that find themselves homeless, the children had to make sleeping quarters from what they could find laying around and then try to function properly today at school after very little rest. A great effort from those involved in school and at home, well done!

We have had some very interesting days in the different year groups this week as new topics have been introduced to stimulate the children’s curiosity. We’ve had an “Incredible” day today in Year 4, all things Tudor in Year 5, a dive into Parvana’s Journey in Year 6 and even a game of quidditch in Year 3!

A reminder that the deadline for deposits for the Year 3&4 PGL trip next year is the 4th December and that tickets for parents to attend the Young Voices event at the O2 Arena are £23 each. Please return the form to school with cash or a cheque made payable to Chalkwell Hall Junior School by Friday 15th November 2019.

Sports news

Our basketball team performed superbly in the first round of the borough tournament on Wednesday, winning both their matches to progress through to the finals in a few weeks – great work team!

Our Year 6 boys played against Leigh North Street last night and put in a great shift despite losing 4-1 on the day. Great team spirit and they represented Chalkwell Hall superbly!

With just 3 weeks to go until our Christmas Events begin, we are looking for volunteers to help with all our Christmas Events so if you have any time to spare please email – all offers of help are greatly appreciated.

Friday 29th November will be Non Uniform / Donation Day. In exchange for wearing non-uniform, we are kindly asking for donations of chocolate and/or wine for our incredibly popular tombola and cakes (no nuts) for the cake stall at the Christmas Fayre.

Adventure Wonderland tickets are available to purchase via our website so if you are looking for a magical Santa experience don’t delay in buying your discounted tickets from us. Each ticket includes 1 free adult entry, access to rides and the Grotto experience. There is no need to pre-book a date and there are no restrictions.

We are pleased to announce that we have secured discounted tickets to Hairspray on Thursday 23rd July 2020 at 7.30pm, London Coliseum. Seats are in the Stalls rows K-N. Tickets will cost a fabulous discounted price of £50 per person (normally £87.50 from the box office). To secure your tickets, please purchase via our website by Friday 6th December latest.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to have a Sorrell board advertising the Christmas Fayre, your support for this was overwhelming and these will be going up shortly.
