We have had another really successful week in school with plenty to celebrate. On Saturday we were presented with a cheque for over £5000 from our local Co-op which came from shoppers picking us as their preferred good cause so a massive thank you to our local community! We have had plenty of children representing us in different events this week with 2 dodgeball teams competing at Garons on Wednesday, our boys taking part in the Essex football finals yesterday and our basketball team playing in the Southend finals this afternoon. They all performed superbly and have been incredible representatives for our school – great work Team Chalkwell!
I had the pleasure of attending the Active Southend annual awards on Wednesday evening where we won School of the Year in recognition of the success we have had and how much there is on offer for our pupils in extra-curricular activities and competitive sports. Thanks to all of the teachers who give up so much of their free time to make the opportunities and to the children in particular for throwing themselves into everything and generally being brilliant!
A couple of reminders that homework can be sent in to firstname.lastname@example.org and that the cut off for deposits for the Year 3 & 4 PGL trip is the 4th December – don’t miss out!
It’s almost time for our Christmas Fayre and we cannot wait!!! Tomorrow, Saturday 30th November from 12-4pm, our school will once again be transformed into a twinkling Winter Wonderland & Marketplace for our Christmas Fayre. There will be plenty to entertain the family, including Festive Mini Golf, Disco Dome, bouncy castle, face painting and games stalls to enjoy, as well as a variety of craft and gift stalls for you to buy some Christmas presents or treat yourself! There will also be live music from local young musicians and Santa will be arriving on his sleigh. We will be holding another wonderful raffle with amazing prizes on offer, including an Apple iPad, £100 cash, Panto theatre tickets and many more!!! Tickets will be available to buy at the Fayre so be sure to enter!!
There will be plenty of refreshments including Prosecco, beer, mulled wine and mince pies as well as tea, coffee and hot chocolate, candy floss and popcorn. Food will be a plenty with pizzas from The Fire Within, jacket potatoes from The Perfect Potato, hotdogs and marshmallow toasting!! Wrap up warm, get into the festive spirit and come and have lots of fun! We hope to see you there!!!
A huge thank you to everyone who chose Chalkwell Hall Schools as their local Co-op cause. With your support as Co-op members, you have helped to raise a fantastic £5,097.16 for our schools and last Saturday we were presented with our cheque!
The Junior Christmas Bazaar will be held on Friday 6th December during the school day. The children will have the opportunity to treat their family, friends and even themselves to an array of gifts, priced between 50p and £1.50 each. Please send your child into school with money in a named purse, together with a carrier bag to bring home their gifts. Full details have been sent out via Ping and a letter has been sent home.
Please don’t forget to bring your Jolly Jars into school by Thursday 5th December for the bazaar, the children absolutely love these!!! Any cake donations (please NO NUTS) are greatly received as these are always popular with the children – please bring into school on Thursday 5th December.
Santa will be taking time out of his busy schedule to visit us again this year at school and see the junior school children on Thursday 5th December. Letters have been sent home this week with full details, so please return your slip with correct payment by next Wednesday 4th December for your child to visit the Grotto and receive a gift and photo.
We had a visit from one of our Governing Body members, Dr Pickup, recently:
I met with Miss Brady to discuss Computing provision. The primary focus of the visit was a review of a new learning assessment approach for Computing (and all non-core subjects). Each child has a single A4 page inserted in their books outlining their objectives for each subject every half term. The children then complete the form when they believe they have achieved their goals and this is reviewed/moderated by the teacher subsequently. It seems a good, simple and practical way of providing a measure of progress in areas such as Computing. There have been some reliability issues with the main learning tablets in the Lower School that will be monitored closely and may require further investment to resolve.
This week there were 38 times when a child arrived late to school. Our overall attendance so far this term is 97%.
