Newsletter – 6th December 2019

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The Christmas Fayre was a great success – our thanks to all who helped organise (particularly our hard-working PTA members) and to all who attended or donated for the raffle or one of the stalls. The Christmas trees are up, Reverend Loh took assembly on Tuesday to talk to the children about Advent, Father Christmas came to visit yesterday, we had the bazaar today (thanks again to all the volunteers!) and Christmas cards are being delivered around school by the elves (or Year 6 as we like to call them!) so the festive season has well and truly begun.

We have had lots of children out representing school again. Our Boccia team fought hard to retain their title from last year and played really well but couldn’t quite make the semi-finals after reaching the Super10s. Our Kurling team, also defending the title, made it to the semi-finals but were edged out in the kurling equivalent of a penalty shoot out to come home with bronze medals – great work team!

Our Year 3&4 girls played football against Earls Hall and performed brilliantly in what, for some, was their first competitive match. They had a great time and learned a lot in their first outing and were great flag bearers for Chalkwell in freezing conditions!

Our handball team took on the local competition at Garons and worked their socks off to come 2nd overall. A tough set of matches for them but they performed well as a team all the way through. It was a pleasure, as always, this week to see our children representing Chalkwell Hall so fantastically in our community – well done all!

We have open afternoon next Tuesday as it’s our last full week of the term and we look forward to seeing lots of you in school. It will also be a good time to have a look through the lost property mountain that always appears at this time of year in the lower hall. Please remember that we need to empty classrooms by 3:15 as teachers have clubs to run and meetings to get to!

A quick reminder that deadlines for deposits for both the Year 3&4 and the Year 6 have arrived so please get signed up and don’t miss out!

Wow what a week! It was lovely to see the children so excited and beaming from ear to ear and we hope you have all had lots of fabulous festive fun!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that with your wonderful support and generosity, our Christmas Fayre raised a fantastic £5,700! Special thanks go to Sorrell for sponsoring our event, our wonderful local businesses for their prize donations including, Lila’s Spa, Stark Hair, Create98, and to our very generous parent donations for the raffle. We are overwhelmed at your generosity and so very thankful. Congratulations to all the raffle prize winners, you will all be contacted ASAP, in the order drawn to arrange collection of your prizes.

Thank you to everyone who bought glow sticks and necklaces at our Leigh Lights Playground sale last Friday, you helped to raise £220!

The children have had a very busy fun filled festive week visiting the Christmas Bazaar and Santa’s Grotto! The Bazaar was a great success, with the children excited to treat themselves, friends and family. Thank you to everyone who supported this festive fundraiser, including those who helped to set up, run the stalls and provide Jolly Jar and cake donations. The children loved visiting Santa in his Winter Wonderland Grotto with his team of cheeky elves to find out if they are on the Nice or Naughty List and photos of your child will be sent home by the end of term.

Our discounted ticket sales to see Mary Poppins The Musical will end this Sunday 8th December at midnight, so to secure your tickets please purchase ASAP via our website

We are also pleased to announce that we have just reserved discounted tickets to The Phantom Of The Opera, so to secure your tickets to this award winning show visit our website today!

Congratulations to The 500 Club November draw winners – Richard Goodacre (185), Julie Bird (217) and Joanne Dickinson (275).

Thank you for your wonderful support!

Attendance matters

This week there were 79 times when a child arrived late to school which is way too many. Late arrivals impact on a settled start to the day for the individual child and also the rest of the class that they interrupt. Where regular lateness is an issue we will be in touch to see how we can help.  Our overall attendance so far this term is 97%.
