Newsletter – 31st January 2020

Next Friday we have a non-uniform day to raise money for Havens Hospice as part of the exciting Hares About Town art trail that starts in July. Our Junior Governors have decided that we will also be sharing the money raised with the Lily’s ‘£1 Warriors’ Campaign which I am sure most people are aware of. Our children lead the decision making on which charities we support across the year and it’s fantastic to see how much thought they put into which causes are chosen when they are representing the views of their classmates in meetings.

Also next week, we will be celebrating science in school with a Science Fair on Thursday and a visit from The Science Museum on Friday who will be holding their “Out of this World” workshop with all year groups. The children will discover what it takes to become an astronaut, launch a rocket, explore the Solar System and look for alien life.

Year 3 have been out in our community this week visiting Westcliff library. They represented us brilliantly and had a very interesting time looking at the vast range of books held in a “proper” library.

Our Year 3&4 girls are representing us at football today at the Len Forge Centre. I had the chance to watch a couple of games this morning and they did us proud, competing well in a draw and a closely fought defeat. Good luck girls!

Attendance matters

This week there were 46 times when a child arrived late to school. It really does affect the start of the day for all pupils in a class when children walk in after the lesson has begun and can certainly have a negative impact on the progress of the individual child if they are regularly missing the start of maths.  Our overall attendance so far this year is 97%.
