Newsletter – 7th February 2020

This week we focused on all things science. Our Science Fair was a great success with an incredible variety of experiments on display for children across the school to get involved in ranging from crime scene forensics to how Star Wars blaster noises are created!  It was a fascinating trip around the school and a great way to share some of the superb science learning that is happening in all year groups with children teaching each other new things.

Today we have been lucky enough to have a visit from The Science Museum and the children have been treated to the “Out Of This World” show where they learned all about the universe and had the chance to watch and take part in all sorts of fun experiments and displays including rockets taking off and freezing astronauts!

We have also had children representing us this week on the sports field. The Year 5&6 girls played football against West Leigh, comfortably winning their league match 2-0, whilst our netball team took on St Mary’s Primary and had a tougher challenge, ending in a close 8-5 defeat. Excellent skills and team spirit on display from both teams who, as ever, did Chalkwell proud. Our Year 5&6 boys are taking on Bournes Green this afternoon so good luck to them too!

A request for parents who have children on bikes, scooters, skateboards etc when they collect at the end of the day – please could you keep those whizzing around on the various modes of transport at a pedestrian speed? There are lots out there at the moment and a crash seems inevitable unless we slow them down a bit!
