Newsletter – 28th February 2020

Lots of different things going on in school this week, ranging from our usual sporting events to a visit from artist Louis Masai who painted an amazing mural in our playground!

Due to all the brilliant work that the school has been doing to help the environment, we were selected by Southend Borough Council and the Young People’s Trust for the Environment as winners of a fantastic mural to be painted by British artist Louis Masai. He is a leading global artist in his field (street art) and has had his work feature across London and other major cities. His work is also displayed at ZSL London Zoo. For the last two days, Louis has been working (through all weather conditions!) to create the amazing Bluefin tuna, which you can now see in the playground.

Our teams have been representing us superbly again this week. Our Year 4 footballers took on Leigh North Street and, although they couldn’t grab the win, they worked hard from start to finish and played with smiles on their faces – even in the cold!

Our Year 5 & 6 boys were in action on Thursday against Bournes Green. Both of our teams showed great commitment but sadly ended up as the losing sides on this occasion.

Our girls team are in action this afternoon, also against Bournes Green, and will be trying to maintain their excellent start to the season. Good luck girls!

Four of our girls team squad, fresh from winning the Essex finals, have been selected to play in the Southend representative side for football which is a fantastic achievement – very well done!

We are always looking to try new things with the children and we had squash sessions in school for the first time. Year 6 were given the opportunity to take part in a squash session run by Chris Vine, an Essex Squash Development Officer and ES Coach. The children were taught the basic principles of the game and had great fun competing against each other.

Finally, our upper and lower school dance squads are out today at the creative dance festival showing the routines they have been working hard on in dance club and I’m sure they’ll be as awesome as always!

Volunteers needed! Last year together we raised over £50,000 for our schools and we are hoping to raise even more this year, but we need more help! The PTA is a very small group with just 5 parents and we are looking for more volunteers, so if you have any time to spare and would like to get involved please email .

We are looking to hold a pre-loved uniform sale in the next couple of weeks. It will take place after school in the library, but we need 2-3 volunteers to run this. If you are available from 1.45 – 3.45pm any day during the week and would be happy to help, please email or send a message via FB or via your class WhatsApp group.

Adventure Island has now reopened for the season and we are once again selling discounted tickets. We are also now selling discounted tickets for Sea Life Adventure Wild and both are available via our website or from Coulson James on Leigh Broadway at any time.

  • Blue Band – £16 each (normally £32 on the gate)
  • Green Band – £13 each (normally £25 on the gate)
  • Sea Life Adventure Wild – £7 each (normally £17.50 per adult and £12.50 per child)

Thank you for your continued support!

Attendance matters

When your child is ill and off school, it is important to give a specific reason for the absence, rather than just saying they are unwell. This is to ensure we can act appropriately should the child’s illness have a possible consequence for others within the school community.

This week there were 40 times when a child arrived late. Our overall attendance so far this year is 97%.
