Newsletter 6th March 2020

Plenty going on this week in and outside of school. World book day was rather soggy but that didn’t dampen spirits as children and adults came in dressed as much-loved characters and talked enthusiastically about their favourite stories. Some very impressive artwork was also on display for those children who took the chance to show their artistic side with their “books rock” creations!

We have installed 3 friendship benches in memory of Ken Smith, our much loved crossing patrol officer (lollipop man!), with donations in his honour made to our school. A lovely legacy and he certainly won’t be forgotten.

Our musicians performed at The Palace Theatre last night as part of Southend Makes Music. It was a lovely evening, showcasing so much local talent and our children helped to light up the stage for the audience. I’m sure we have some stars of the future in our school!

After some lessons in school, and always looking for new ways to get our children involved in new activities, we had our first ever squash team in action today at DW fitness in Thorpe Bay where they came 2nd and now move through to the next round!

Our netball team were absolutely superb on Wednesday at the annual borough tournament. The girls couldn’t quite manage to retain the trophy they won last year but did come away with well-deserved bronze medals in a competition of exceptionally high quality. They won every game bar the semi-final in style and represented us in impeccable fashion with their positive attitudes and brilliant team spirit all the way through!

Our girls played in the SUFC tournament at Garon Park yesterday in horrible conditions. Despite driving rain, wind and the cold, both A and B teams fought hard in every game playing with spirit and determination even when they couldn’t feel their feet! The A team battled all the way to the final and came home with their second major trophy of the season and now go on to represent Southend United in the next round at Chelsea’s training ground later in the year!

All the children that have represented us this week have been genuinely amazing and we couldn’t be prouder of them – go team Chalkwell!
