This year, we have launched a new initiative in Year 3 called The Chalkwell Passport. The passport contains 48 experiences that we believe every child should have by the time they leave Chalkwell Hall Junior School and are linked to the core values of enquiry, resilience, respect, responsibility, creativity and cooperation. These experiences have been carefully mapped with the subject leaders and year group teams so that if a child attends from the beginning of Year 3 to the end of Year 6, they will have opportunities to tick off every challenge, earning stamps on their passport along the way, so that they are “ready to fly” after their 4-year learning journey.
Although these challenges are not always statutory learning on the national curriculum, we believe in equity of experience and think that these challenges provide enrichment, create awe and wonder and develop a love of learning for all children.
As the children complete the challenges, they also have the opportunity to journal about their experience, using an app called SeeSaw. On SeeSaw, the children have photos and videos of their experiences posted, which they can then respond to using voice recording, videos, drawings or text annotations. At the moment, this aspect of The Chalkwell Passport is in its trial phase, though we hope to soon give access to parents at home so that the children can show you all the wonderful work they are doing.
