Design Technology

Vision Statement

It is our Intent that all children will have an opportunity to think creatively about how to solve design problems and learn the practical skills that will allow them to put their solutions into practice. Where possible, this learning will be closely related to the rest of the curriculum and appropriate links drawn, particularly with innovative technologies such as 3D printing and in key areas, like STEM. Children will be taught to evaluate products critically, throughout the design process, from existing products to their own finished pieces. All children will know how to use a range of different tools safely and be aware of the risks associated with different design processes, including food hygiene. Children and staff will be able to demonstrate a secure understanding of the differences between art and DT, which will be evidenced through regular perception surveys and varied outcomes for a specific user, for a specific purpose.
